The Michigan All Girl Cheer Team was founded in 1999 when a few women wanted another option besides the Varsity Co-Ed cheerleading team to support the university and still be involved in something that they love while in college.  The founders wanted to provide this same opportunity to other students who shared in their same desires to continue cheerleading. Since that time, the team has grown tremendously, become increasingly competitive with other universities and has become even more involved in the community and university.

The objective of the Michigan All-Girl Cheer Team is to promote school spirit in support of the college’s community and to represent the university in a competitive capacity. As high school and all star competitive cheerleading is becoming more and more popular, the Michigan All-Girl Competitive Cheer Team allows this increasing number of athletes to continue their passion and cheer on a collegiate team. All-Girl college teams are growing rapidly in number to give female athletes an opportunity to cheer at the collegiate level without having to transition to Co-Ed cheerleading.

The Michigan All Girl Cheer Team began as cheerleaders for the Club Men’s Lacrosse Team, but over time the sport of cheerleading has changed. When the Club Men’s Lacrosse Team became a Varsity sport, our cheer team was able to evolve and enter Collegiate Competitive Cheerleading.   Since then, the skill level and performance of the team has increased dramatically.

Currently, the Michigan All Girl Cheer Team practices 2 or 3 times per week throughout the fall and winter semesters and competes during the winter semesters.  The Michigan All-Girl Cheer Team currently competes against other collegiate All-Girl cheer teams, which includes: Michigan State University, Grand Valley State University, Davenport University, and Alma College at fully sanctioned collegiate competitions.  These programs range from club programs to fully funded university sports programs.  The Michigan All-Girl Cheer Team is consistently competitive against these other programs placing 2nd and 3rd at many competitions.  Additionally, in August of 2014, the Michigan All Girl Cheer Team was offered a Bronze paid bid to the collegiate National Cheerleading Championships for the first time since its founding.
